supposed to be quite romantic. But this scene with him being surprisingly nice to Chloe is undermining that romantic tension. Here's my analysis:

1. Undermines romantic tension with Chloe: Jean-Pierre's sudden kindness and understanding towards Chloe completely remove any romantic tension between them. If he's being so validating and sympathetic, it makes it impossible for the audience to believe he could suddenly feel romantic attraction to Chloe later on. This kills the central romance of the season.
